General Meyer’s Flight
Brigadier General Richard L. Meyer is a decorated veteran, having been vice commander of 12th Air Force, with headquarters at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas. In his role as a command pilot, he logged more than 4,000 hours flying time and 100 combat hours. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and Air Force Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters.
After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, General Meyer thankfully graduated off hospice and arrived at Silverado in need of much support and assistance. With the love of his wife Joanne, and the community team, he has grown stronger each day.
On September 27, General Meyer returned to the life he loved so much. He was a special guest of the San Marcos Commemorative Air Force in the kick-off flyover for the annual Onion Creek Country Club Golf Tournament. Joined by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, our Silverado team and Jay Wallis of KVUE, General Meyer suited up and climbed into the cockpit of the U3 aircraft, just like he used to do for so many years.
