Bridging Generations with Alma’s Little Lambs

Bringing the energy of youth into our communities has always been a part of care at Silverado, which is why associates are encouraged to bring their children to work when health and safety guidelines permit. The story of Alma's Little Lambs, which is from more then ten years ago, does a wonderful job of illustrating one of the most important ways we've redefined care in the past 25 years!

Two doors down from the Silverado The Huntington is Alma’s Little Lambs, a preschool and day care center for children ranging from 18 months to five years. When the center opened we approached owner Alma Contreras to invite her and the children for a visit. Instantly she and the students fell in love with the nurturing environment.

Since then, the children have continued to visit and participate in programs weekly, giving residents purpose, connection and a family-like lifestyle through interactions like drum circles, Tai Chi movement classes, singing and puppetry. The children, along with their parents, have even made a tradition of celebrating special occasions with our residents and staff.

“This is one of the most important programs of my curriculum,” explains Alma. “I see my little students become more tender, kind, compassionate and understanding.”

In turn, our residents have received filled with moments of nurture and genuine happiness.
