Silverado’s Community Gardening Project: Literally a “Healthy” Competition!

Silverado’s care philosophy draws from the latest in scientific findings and more than 25 years of our own experience caring for residents. This is the foundation of Nexus® at Silverado, our science-based brain health programming with a lifestyle focused on facilitating an active, full life.

This past spring, Silverado communities from coast to coast participated in a project that combined some of the most important brain-health and lifestyle practices we use! Each Silverado community’s Nexus residents were challenged to prepare a beautiful, welcoming garden area within their community, and they all delivered!

This project incorporated a bevy of brain-health benefits, including:

  • Sunshine and Fresh Air
Natural sunlight is a proven way to reduce depression, which often affects those living with dementia and can strongly exacerbate or even accelerate its symptoms.
  • Physical Exercise
Many studies have linked increased blood flow to the brain from cardiovascular activity to improved cognitive function.
  • Purposeful Social Activities
A strong social network involving purpose-oriented activities has been found to protect against cognitive decline.

Everyone did an amazing job, but in the end, Silverado Bellevue, Silverado Bellingham and Silverado Berkeley came out on top. See their winning efforts below!
